The Mar Menor, also known as the Inland Sea, is a saltwater lagoon, located in the southeastern of the Murcia region. The lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of land called La Manga del Mar Menor which is 21 km long between 100 and 1200 meters wide.
This Mar Menor is a maximum of 7 meters deep, so the water here is warmer all year round. This is the perfect environment for the kids to play, go for a swim, to paddle, as well as a variety of water activities.
There is a Mediterranean subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of 18°C, with warm, but mild summers (28-32°C) and mild winters. The sun shines on average 320 days a year. It is not for nothing that this coastal strip is called the Costa Cálida (warm coast) . The humidity is very low.

Costa Cálida betekent in het Spaans “Warme Kust”. De kustlijn heeft een lengte van circa 250 kilometer. Je vindt hier kleine baaitjes, rotsachtige kliffen en prachtige witte zandstranden.

De Mar Menor, ook wel de Binnenzee genoemd, is een zoutwater lagune, gelegen in het zuidoosten van de regio Murcia. De lagune is gescheiden van de Middellandse Zee door een strook land, La Manga del Mar Menor genaamd, die 21 km lang is tussen de 100 en 1200 meter breed is.
Deze Mar Menor is maximum 7 meter diep, daardoor is het water hier ook warmer het hele jaar door. Dit is de perfecte omgeving om de kinderen te laten spelen, om te zwemmen, pootje te baden, maar ook voor tal van wateractiviteiten.
Er heerst een Mediterraan subtropisch klimaat met een gemiddelde jaartemperatuur van 18°C, met warme, maar milde zomers (28-32°C) en zachte winters. De zon schijnt gemiddeld 320 dagen per jaar. Het is niet voor niets dat deze kuststrook de Costa Cálida (warme kust) genoemd wordt. De luchtvochtigheid is zeer laag.

Mar de Cristal behoort tot de gemeente Cartagena, net als los Belones en het naburige Islas Menores. Het dorpje dankt haar naam aan het kristalheldere zeewater. Alle faciliteiten zoals supermarkten, restaurants, hotel en terrassen zijn makkelijk te voet of per fiets te bereiken.
Het gezellige haventje is voorzien van 120 ligplaatsen en heeft aan weerszijden een boulevard van ongeveer 1 km. De ligging tussen Cabo de Palos, Calblanque, La Manga Club en Cartagena maken het een tot een zeer geliefde locatie. Het prachtige zandstrand van Mar de Cristal (slechts 5 minuten wandelen vanaf de woning), is uitgeroepen door de Europese Unie als “Blue Flag beach” en behoort dus tot de beste stranden van Europa.
Het hele jaar door kan je hier goed vertoeven. Wandel over de mooie boulevard, rust even uit in de gezellige barretjes en geniet van heerlijke Spaanse gerechten in één van de restaurants. In het dorp zelf is er een SPAR die het hele jaar open is en een Supermercado, enkel open in de zomer. Een (verse) viswinkel, een souvenirwinkel en een apotheek.
Tijdens de zomermaanden juli en augustus is er een wekelijkse markt op vrijdag.
In Mar de Cristal vind je diverse leuke restaurantjes. Hieronder een oplijsting van plekken die worden aanbevolen;

In het nabijgelegen LOS BELONES, op 2 km, zijn er tal van winkeltjes, café’s en restaurants die het ganse jaar open zijn. Ook hier is een wekelijkse markt op dinsdag. Er is hier een kerk en er zijn hier 2 banken en ATM, een wasserette en een heerlijke bakker. Ook een Spar, tabakswinkel, viswinkel, een English Shop en mogelijkheid voor English Breakfast.

Grenzend aan Mar de Cristal ligt het NATUURRESERVAAT CALBLANQUE, met spectaculaire ongerepte bergen, maagdelijke zandstranden, adembenemende vergezichten en een prachtige flora en fauna. Hier kun je uren wandelen, vogels en dolfijnen spotten, bergbeklimmen, of enkele van de intieme baaitjes ontdekken waar je het rijk voor je alleen hebt. Voor velen is dit het meest spectaculaire gebied van de Costa Calida.
In de zomermaanden mag je hier niet met motorvoertuigen komen om zo de natuur te beschermen. Er is een parking voorzien net voor de toegang tot het park van waaruit een pendelbus vertrekt, deze is echter druk bezet tijdens hoogseizoen. Het is daarom aan te raden om te parkeren op de grote parking net voor Los Belones en daar de bus naar het natuurgebied te nemen (Parada Bus Calblanque Belones)

Het vissersdorpje naast Mar de Cristal; LOS NIETOS, is een klein typisch Spaans dorpje met een oud en nieuw (lees: toerismeverhuur) gedeelte. Zeker de moeite waard om eens te bezoeken. Vanuit het restaurant Antonios kan je genieten van een prachtig zicht op de Mar Menor onder het nuttigen van een heerlijke paella. Men kan vanuit Los Nietos dagelijks met een trein naar Cartagena; een aanrader!

La Manga is een smalle landstrook die de Mar Menor scheidt van de Middellandse zee. Op de stranden van La Manga del Mar Menor kunt u zowel van de opkomende als de ondergaande zon genieten. Een perfecte locatie hiervoor is het restaurant Escuela de Pieter!
De breedte van de landtong varieert tussen de 100 en 1200 meter. Op de stranden vindt u talloze beach clubs, restaurants en watersport mogelijkheden. Kite surfen is een van de meest populaire watersporten die wordt beoefend.
Deze bijna eindeloos slingerende landtong biedt tevens een aantal havens, waarbij Tomas Maestre de grootste is, deze biedt maar liefst 1721 ligplaatsen. Geheel aan het einde van deze landtong bevindt zich de bekende ‘lachbrug’, deze is zeker de ervaring waard om eens over te rijden... je zal gegarandeerd moeten lachen!
Richting La Manga/Cabo de Palos kan men gaan mini-golfen in LA MANGA ADVENTURE GOLF, gecombineerd met een rijkelijk English Breakfast. Enkele km’s verder kan men gaan karten in LA MANGA GO-KART, Calle de la Manga, 2.

Klein kustdorpje net voor La Manga. Hier vind je een kleine haven met de typische vissersbootjes. Het wordt ook getypeerd door het relaxte Mediterraanse leven, rotsen en diverse leuke restaurantjes en barretjes.
Cabo de Palos is onderdeel van een beschermd gebied, dus als de onderwaterwereld jouw ding is, moet je hier zeker naar toe! Men kan hier deelnemen aan boottochten en duikexcursies, dit wordt hier uitgebreid aangeboden.
Mooie wandelingen kunnen gemaakt worden langsheen de rotsen waarbij het afdalen naar de verborgen strandjes soms een uitdaging is. Een prachtige wandeling en mooi uitzicht!
Cabo de Palos is een gastronomische parel! Men kan hier in tal van restaurants en bars terecht om lekker te eten, voor iedereen wat wils. Mijn favoriet is Bocano de Palos, best wel vooraf reserveren.
De wekelijkse markt in Cabo, op zondag, is een heel grote markt die massaal bezocht wordt door de Spanjaarden, tweedeverblijvers en toeristen! In Cabo de Palos vind je ook alle winkels zoals een ‘grote’ SPAR, ‘de Chinees’ Asia Shop, een doe-het-zelf zaak en een Aldi.

Richting zuiden, op zo’n 20 km van de woning, vind je de populaire stad Cartagena. Hier vind je ook de prachtige “Cala Cortina”. Deze Cala Cortina staat ook gekend als één van de betere snorkelregio ́s.
De historische Romaanse havenstad Cartagena heeft de grootste natuurlijke haven van Spanje. Het amfitheater, stadsmuur en kathedraal uit de Romeinse tijd zijn bewaard gebleven. De Carthagenen zijn erg trots op hun mooie stad en vieren er graag en vaak feest.
Zoals in de laatste twee weken van september, wanneer de stad wordt omgetoverd tot de oude Romeinse stad Carthago en duizenden Carthagenen in prachtige Romeinse kleding elke avond in optochten door de stad trekken. Cartegena heeft een zeer lange geschiedenis, ze getuigen van de diepe wortels van de Romeinse en Carthaagse invloeden op de omgeving.
Het Romeinse amfitheater is pas ontdekt in het jaar 1980. Net voor Cartagena ligt het grote shopping center: Espacio Meditteraneo (Parque Mediterráneo – zie verder onder shopping).

De stad Murcia – eveneens de hoofdstad van provincie Murcia – wordt vaak beschreven als één van de mooiste historische steden van Spanje en wordt het ‘Madrid van het zuiden’ genoemd. Hier heb je een grote waaier aan historische gebouwen en impressionante stadsmuren, kerken die oorspronkelijk moskees waren en de Kathedraal (het meest gewaardeerde gebouw van de stad).
Uiteraard bestaat Murcia niet enkel uit geschiedenis en lijkt het nu misschien een oude stad, maar alles is prima onderhouden en/of gerestaureerd. Ook is het een belangrijke én gezellige stad, met een grote universiteit, studentenleven, vele bars en winkels!

Nog zuidelijker dan Cartagena vind je Puerto de Mazarrón. Ook hier weer fantastische stranden en gezelligheid. De lokale economie draait voornamelijk om de visserij. Het moment dat de dagvangst wordt binnengehaald, is zeker een aanrader om eens te zien! Ook zijn hier tal van historische gebouwen en kerken die een bezoekje waard zijn!

Als je vanuit Mazarrón naar Águilas rijdt, zie je een mooie, maar vooral pittoreske kustlijn. Bezienswaardigheden hier zijn “La Plaza España” met haar fantastische tuinen, de kerk van San José, het sierlijke stadhuis, de oude haven en het kasteel.

Het kuststadje Los Alcázares biedt alles wat je maar wil. Slenteren op de kilometerslange promenade, langs de Mar Menor, een hapje eten in één van de vele bars of restaurantjes of in een typische chiringuito (strandbar).

In San Javier was vroeger ook een burgerluchthaven. Ook is hier de thuisbasis van de militaire academie van de Spaanse luchtmacht, deze diende in het verleden om de haven van Cartagena te beschermen. De academie huisvest tevens de Patrulla Águila, het nationaal acrobatisch showteam van de Spaanse luchtmacht, vaak te zien boven de Mar Menor.

Een deel van de naam (El Pinatar) komt uit een groot dennenbos waar vroeger werd gejaagd. Later, in de 17e eeuw, werd het andere deel van de naam toegevoegd (San Pedro) nadat de vissers een kapel hadden gebouwd waar ze hulde brachten aan de apostel Petrus.
Dit was dus een typisch vissersdorpje en gekend voor de zoutwinning.
La playa Barraca Quemada en playa de la Llana zijn hier een bezoekje waard. Tegenwoordig staat de gemeente meer bekend om het grote natuurreservaat Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro. Hier vindt u zoutmeren, een wandelgebied met mogelijkheden om vele soorten vogels, o.a. flamingo’s, te spotten en de befaamde geneeskrachtige modderbaden (* zie verder Modderbaden). Ook hier vind je kilometerslange, mooi onderhouden stranden.
De wekelijkse markt op maandag is een zeer grote markt met tal van kraampjes. In San Pedro del Pinatar bevindt zich de Pinatar Arena waar regelmatig oefenwedstrijden zijn van buitenlandse voetbalploegen. Programma en agenda zijn te vinden op de website www.pinatararena.com. Een aanrader voor voetballiefhebbers!

Langs de binnenzee loopt een wijde mooie promenade. Die loopt verder langs gans het strand richting San Javier. Te voet of met de fiets kan je zo naar de volgende strand of dorp. Vlakbij Lo Pagan ligt een andere populaire vakantiebestemming namelijk Santiago de Ribera of een eindje verder Orihuela Costa (provincie Alicante).

De bekende modderbaden bevinden zich aan het strand van Lo Pagán. Hier kan je zien hoe de mensen zich insmeren met modder, modder die zeer geneeskrachtig werkt. Het hoge zoutgehalte van het meer bevat veel jodium. Mensen met reumatische klachten en artritis brengen daarom graag een bezoekje aan deze modderbaden. Breuken herstellen sneller, huidaandoeningen verminderen ...
Hoe hier zelf van genieten/profiteren? Smeer je zelf met modder in, eerst op de eventueel gevoeligere plekken, daarna helemaal. Laat deze modder drogen in de zon tot een harde korst. Om het maximale eruit te halen, zou je de modder minimaal een uur moeten laten drogen. Daarna ga je je in het zoute water afspoelen.
Waar vind je deze geweldige modderbaden?
Vanaf de Molino Quintin, aan de Avenida del Puerto, vertrekt een wandelpromenade. Er zijn houten steigers die je toegang geven tot het water en de modder. Deze modderbaden zijn volledig gratis en zijn zeker een bezoekje waard! Geniet ervan!
Enkele tips;
- Neem een pot of iets mee om modder op te scheppen.
- Draag niet je beste badpak/zwembroek. Er zijn vaak meerdere wasbeurten nodig om dit proper te krijgen.
- Waterschoenen kunnen handig zijn.
- Gebruik een handdoek in de wagen om je zetels te beschermen, ook kan er een indringende geur blijven hangen.

Hou er rekening mee dat in Spanje veel stranden beschermd natuurgebied zijn. Respecteer dus altijd de borden die je ziet. Neem je afval mee en deponeer het in één van de vuilnisbakken. Laat niets achter! Op deze plekken kan je ook niet altijd met de wagen komen, je ziet vaak wel waar de auto ́s geparkeerd staan en van daaruit ga je dan te voet verder.
LA PLAYA BARRACA QUEMADA (SAN PEDRO DEL PINATAR) Ook bekend als Playa de La Llana, is een van de meest aanbevolen plekjes aan de Costa Cálida, omdat het veel schaduwrijke plekken heeft dankzij het grote aantal palmbomen op het strand. Het is ongeveer 700 meter lang en een grote verscheidenheid aan strandbars.
PORTMAN BAY Op enkele minuten van de woning ligt één van Europa ’s mooiste en grootste golfbanen, LA MANGA GOLF RESORT, evenals een zeer mooi Spa en Wellness centrum met zwembad, sauna, jacuzzi ́s, stoombaden en een fitnesscentrum met fantastische panoramische zeezichten en een paar heerlijke (duurdere) restaurants.
Rij recht doorheen het resort en bezoek PORTMAN BAY, wellicht één van de mooiste verborgen strandjes in de buurt, met zwart zand, gelegen aan de Middelandse Zee. In de zomer is het er leuk vertoeven en men kan er ook iets drinken/eten in de strandbars. In de winter is er één bar open tijdens de weekends.
De Romeinen hebben dit kleine dorp opgericht in de 1e eeuw, met de naam Portus Magnus, wat betekent: Grote Poort. De stad ontwikkelde zich aanzienlijk als een deel van het mijngebied van La Unión, vooral vanwege de natuurlijk beschutte baai en haven, waardoor het een strategische locatie binnen het Romeinse rijk was. Er zijn belangrijke overblijfselen uit de mijnbouwperiodes te zien in het archeologisch museum, alsook een oude Romeinse mozaïekbestrating die teruggevonden is in de Romeinse villa van Paturro en beschouwd als de grootste in zijn soort in de regio Murcia.
PLAYA DE CALBLANQUE (CARTAGENA)
Zoals hierboven al uitgelegd vind je hier prachtige fauna en flora, ongerepte bergen, zandstranden, vergezichten. Uren wandelen en vogels of dolfijnen spotten.
PLAYA DE PONIENTE (ÁGUILAS)
Águilas heeft veel prachtige plekken om te zwemmen, maar één van de beste is ongetwijfeld Playa de Poniente, bekroond met de blauwe vlag. Het ligt in het stadscentrum en is ideaal om een perfecte stranddag door te brengen: toiletten, strandbars en restaurants, kinderspeelplaats, ....
PLAYA HONDA
Gelegen tussen Mar de Cristal en Cabo de Palos; Aan de ene kant grenst dit aan een beschermd natuurreservaat met zoutmeren en vele soorten vogels. De natuurliefhebbers kunnen hier hun hart ophalen. Aan de andere zijde ligt een grote camping waar veel mensen komen om te overwinteren. Een aanrader is het restaurant Malvasia, genoteerd in de Michelin gids.

Fietsen kan langs de hele kust van de Mar Menor. De regio staat bol van de fietspaden, maar fietsers kunnen ook vasthouden aan de hoofdwegen en nog steeds genieten van het uitzicht op de prachtige kustlijn. Fietsen, scooters en quads kunnen gehuurd worden op locaties rond de Mar Menor gebied.

This Mar Menor is a maximum of 7 meters deep, making the water warmer here all year round. This is the perfect environment for the children to play, for a swim, to dip their toes, but also for many water activities.

Mar de Cristal belongs to the municipality of Cartagena, as do los Belones and neighboring Islas Menores. The village owes its name to the crystal clear sea water. All facilities such as supermarkets, restaurants, hotel and terraces are easy to reach on foot or by bicycle.
The cozy harbor has 120 berths and a boulevard of about 1 km on both sides. Its location between Cabo de Palos, Calblanque, La Manga Club and Cartagena make it a very popular location. The beautiful sandy beach of Mar de Cristal (just a 5-minute walk from the house), has been declared by the European Union as a “Blue Flag beach” and is therefore one of the best beaches in Europe.
You can stay here all year round. Stroll along the beautiful boulevard, relax in the cozy bars and enjoy delicious Spanish dishes in one of the restaurants. In the village itself there is a SPAR that is open all year round and a Supermercado, open only in the summer. A (fresh) fish shop, a souvenir shop and a pharmacy.
During the summer months of July and August there is a weekly market on Friday.

In nearby LOS BELONES, 2 km away, there are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants that are open all year round. There is also a weekly market here on Tuesdays. There is a church here and there are 2 banks and ATM, a launderette and a wonderful bakery. Also a Spar, tobacconist, fishmonger, an English Shop and possibility for English Breakfast.

Adjacent to Mar de Cristal is the NATURE RESERVE CALBLANQUE, with spectacular pristine mountains, pristine sandy beaches, breathtaking vistas and stunning flora and fauna. Here you can walk for hours, spot birds and dolphins, climb mountain, or discover some of the intimate coves where you have the realm to yourself. For many this is the most spectacular area of the Costa Calida.
In the summer months you are not allowed to come here with motor vehicles in order to protect nature. There is a car park just before the entrance to the park from which a shuttle bus departs, but it is busy during high season. It is therefore advisable to park in the large parking lot just before Los Belones and take the bus to the nature reserve there (Parada Bus Calblanque Belones)

The fishing village next to Mar de Cristal; LOS NietOS, is a small typical Spanish village with an old and new (read: tourism rental) part. Definitely worth a visit. From the Antonios restaurant you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Mar Menor while enjoying a delicious paella. You can take a daily train from Los Nietos to Cartagena; recommended!

La Manga is a narrow strip of land that separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea. On the beaches of La Manga del Mar Menor you can enjoy both the rising and the setting sun. A perfect location for this is the restaurant Escuela de Pieter!
The width of the headland varies between 100 and 1200 meters. On the beaches you will find countless beach clubs, restaurants and water sports options. Kite surfing is one of the most popular water sports practiced.
This almost endlessly winding headland also offers a number of harbours, with Tomas Maestre being the largest, it offers no fewer than 1721 berths. At the very end of this headland is the well-known 'laughing bridge', it is definitely worth the experience to drive over... you will be guaranteed to laugh!
Towards La Manga/Cabo de Palos you can play mini-golf in LA MANGA ADVENTURE GOLF, combined with a rich English Breakfast. A few kms further you can go karting in LA MANGA GO-KART, Calle de la Manga, 2.

Towards the south, about 20 km from the house, you will find the popular city of Cartagena. Here you will also find the beautiful “Cala Cortina”. This Cala Cortina is also known as one of the better snorkelling regions.
The historic Romanesque port city of Cartagena has the largest natural harbor in Spain. The amphitheatre, city wall and cathedral from Roman times have been preserved. The Carthaginians are very proud of their beautiful city and like to celebrate there often.
Like in the last two weeks of September, when the city is transformed into the ancient Roman city of Carthage and thousands of Carthaginians in beautiful Roman clothing parade through the city every evening. Cartegena has a very long history, testifying to the deep roots of the Roman and Carthaginian influences on the area.
The Roman amphitheater was only discovered in the year 1980. Just before Cartagena is the large shopping center: Espacio Meditteraneo (Parque Mediterráneo – see further under shopping).

The city of Murcia - also the capital of the province of Murcia - is often described as one of the most beautiful historic cities in Spain and is called the 'Madrid of the south'. Here you have a wide range of historic buildings and impressive city walls, churches that were originally mosques and the Cathedral (the city's most prized building).

Even further south than Cartagena you will find Puerto de Mazarrón. Here again fantastic beaches and fun. The local economy mainly revolves around fishing. San Javier also used to be a civil airport. It is also home to the military academy of the Spanish Air Force, which in the past served to protect the port of Cartagena. The academy also houses the Patrulla Águila, the Spanish Air Force's national acrobatic show team, often seen over the Mar Menor.

Part of the name (El Pinatar) comes from a large pine forest where hunting used to take place. Later, in the 17th century, the other part of the name was added (San Pedro) after the fishermen built a chapel where they paid tribute to the Apostle Peter.
This was a typical fishing village and known for its salt production.
La playa Barraca Quemada and playa de la Llana are worth a visit here. Today, the municipality is more known for the large nature reserve Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro. Here you will find salt lakes, a walking area with opportunities to spot many species of birds, including flamingos, and the famous medicinal mud baths (* see further Mud baths). Here, too, you will find miles of well-maintained beaches.
The weekly market on Mondays is a very large market with numerous stalls. In San Pedro del Pinatar is the Pinatar Arena where there are regular practice matches of foreign football teams. Program and agenda can be found on the website www.pinatararena.com. A must for football fans!

A wide, beautiful promenade runs along the inland sea. It continues along the entire beach towards San Javier. You can easily reach the next beach or village on foot or by bike. Close to Lo Pagan is another popular holiday destination, Santiago de Ribera or a little further Orihuela Costa (province of Alicante).

The famous mud baths are located on the beach of Lo Pagán. Here you can see how people rub themselves with mud, mud that has a very medicinal effect. Where do you find these amazing mud baths?
A pedestrian promenade departs from the Molino Quintin, on Avenida del Puerto. There are wooden jetties that give you access to the water and mud. These mud baths are completely free and well worth a visit! Enjoy it!
A few tips;
- Bring a pot or something to scoop up mud.
- Don't wear your best bathing suit/swimming trunks. Several washes are often required to get it clean.
- Water shoes can be useful.
- Use a towel in the car to protect your seats, a pungent odor can also linger.

Keep in mind that many beaches in Spain are protected nature reserves. So always respect the signs you see. Take your waste with you and deposit it in one of the garbage cans. Leave nothing! You can't always come to these places by car, you can often see where the car is parked and from there you continue on foot.
LA PLAYA BARRACA QUEMADA (SAN PEDRO DEL PINATAR)
Also known as Playa de La Llana, it is one of the most recommended spots on the Costa Cálida, as it has many shady areas thanks to the large number of palm trees on the beach. It is about 700 meters long and a wide variety of beach bars.
PORTMAN BAY
A few minutes from the house is one of Europe's most beautiful and largest golf courses, LA MANGA GOLF RESORT, as well as a very nice Spa and Wellness center with swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, steam baths and a fitness center with fantastic panoramic sea views and some wonderful (more expensive) restaurants.
Drive straight through the resort and visit PORTMAN BAY, perhaps one of the most beautiful hidden beaches in the area, with black sand, located on the Mediterranean Sea. In the summer it is nice to stay there and you can also have a drink/eat in the beach bars. In winter, one bar is open on weekends.
The Romans founded this small village in the 1st century, with the name Portus Magnus, which means: Great Gate. The city developed significantly as part of the mining area of La Unión, mainly because of its naturally sheltered bay and harbor, making it a strategic location within the Roman Empire. Important remains from the mining periods can be seen in the Archaeological Museum, as well as an ancient Roman mosaic pavement recovered from the Roman villa of Paturro and considered the largest of its kind in the Murcia region.

As explained above, you will find beautiful fauna and flora, pristine mountains, sandy beaches, and panoramic views. Hours of walking and spotting birds or dolphins.
PLAYA DE PONIENTE (ÁGUILAS)
Águilas has many beautiful places to swim, but one of the best is undoubtedly Playa de Poniente, awarded with the blue flag. Located in the city center, it is ideal to spend a perfect day at the beach: toilets, beach bars and restaurants, children's playground, ....
PLAYA HONDA
Located between Mar de Cristal and Cabo de Palos; On the one hand, it borders a protected nature reserve with salt lakes and many species of birds. Nature lovers can indulge themselves here. Costa Cálida significa "Costa Cálida" en español. El litoral tiene una longitud aproximada de 250 km. Aquí encontrarás pequeñas calas, acantilados rocosos y preciosas playas de arena blanca.

El Mar Menor, también conocido como Mar Interior, es una laguna de agua salada situada en el sureste de la Región de Murcia. La laguna está separada del mar Mediterráneo por una franja de tierra denominada La Manga del Mar Menor que tiene 21 km de largo y entre 100 y 1200 metros de ancho.
Este Mar Menor tiene un máximo de 7 metros de profundidad, por lo que el agua es más cálida aquí durante todo el año. Este es el entorno perfecto para que los niños jueguen, naden, sumerjan los dedos de los pies en el agua, pero también para muchas actividades acuáticas.
Hay un clima subtropical mediterráneo con una temperatura media anual de 18 °C, con veranos cálidos pero templados (28-32 °C) e inviernos suaves. El sol brilla en promedio 320 días al año. No en vano esta franja costera recibe el nombre de Costa Cálida (costa cálida). La humedad es muy baja.

Mar de Cristal pertenece al municipio de Cartagena, al igual que los Belones y las vecinas Islas Menores. El pueblo debe su nombre al agua cristalina del mar. Todas las instalaciones como supermercados, restaurantes, hoteles y terrazas son de fácil acceso a pie o en bicicleta.
El acogedor puerto tiene 120 amarres y un bulevar de aproximadamente 1 km a ambos lados. Su ubicación entre Cabo de Palos, Calblanque, La Manga Club y Cartagena lo convierten en un lugar muy popular. La preciosa playa de arena de Mar de Cristal (a tan solo 5 minutos andando desde la casa), ha sido declarada por la Unión Europea como “playa con Bandera Azul” y por tanto es una de las mejores playas de Europa.
Puedes quedarte aquí todo el año. Pasee por el hermoso bulevar, relájese en los acogedores bares y disfrute de deliciosos platos españoles en uno de los restaurantes. En el mismo pueblo hay un SPAR que está abierto todo el año y un Supermercado, abierto sólo en verano. Una pescadería (fresca), una tienda de souvenirs y una farmacia.
Durante los meses de verano de julio y agosto hay un Mercado semanal los viernes.

En la cercana LOS BELONES, a 2 km, hay numerosas tiendas, cafeterías y restaurantes abiertos todo el año. También hay un mercado semanal aquí los martes. Aquí hay una iglesia y hay 2 bancos y cajeros automáticos, una lavandería y una maravillosa panadería. También Spar, estanco, pescadería, English Shop y posibilidad de English Breakfast.

Adyacente a Mar de Cristal se encuentra la RESERVA NATURAL DE CALBLANQUE, con espectaculares montañas vírgenes, playas de arena vírgenes, vistas impresionantes y una flora y fauna impresionantes. Aquí puede caminar durante horas, observar aves y delfines, escalar montañas o descubrir algunas de las calas íntimas donde tiene el reino para usted solo. Para muchos esta es la zona más espectacular de la Costa Cálida.
En los meses de verano no está permitido venir aquí con vehículos de motor para proteger la naturaleza. Hay un aparcamiento justo antes de la entrada al parque desde el que sale un autobús lanzadera, pero está ocupado durante la temporada alta. Por lo tanto, es recomendable estacionar en el estacionamiento grande justo antes de Los Belones y tomar el autobús hasta la reserva natural allí (Parada Bus Calblanque Belones)

El pueblo marinero junto a Mar de Cristal; LOS NietOS, es un pequeño pueblo típico español con una parte antigua y nueva (léase: alquiler turístico). Definitivamente vale la pena una visita. Desde el restaurante Antonios podrás disfrutar de unas preciosas vistas al Mar Menor mientras disfrutas de una deliciosa paella. Puedes tomar un tren diario desde Los Nietos a Cartagena; ¡recomendado!

La Manga es una estrecha franja de tierra que separa el Mar Menor del Mar Mediterráneo. En las playas de La Manga del Mar Menor se puede disfrutar tanto del sol naciente como del poniente. ¡Un lugar perfecto para esto es el restaurante Escuela de Pieter!
El ancho del promontorio varía entre 100 y 1200 metros. En las playas encontrarás innumerables clubes de playa, restaurantes y opciones de deportes acuáticos. El kitesurf es uno de los deportes acuáticos más populares que se practican.
Este promontorio sinuoso casi sin fin también ofrece una serie de puertos, siendo Tomás Maestre el más grande, ofrece no menos de 1721 amarres. Al final de este promontorio se encuentra el conocido 'puente de la risa', definitivamente vale la pena la experiencia de conducir por encima... ¡te garantizamos que te reirás!
Hacia La Manga/Cabo de Palos puedes jugar al minigolf en LA MANGA ADVENTURE GOLF, combinado con un rico English Breakfast. Unos kms más adelante puedes practicar karting en LA MANGA GO-KART, Calle de la Manga, 2.

Pequeño pueblo costero justo antes de La Manga. Aquí encontrarás un pequeño puerto con los típicos barcos de pesca. También se caracteriza por la relajada vida mediterránea, las rocas y varios buenos restaurantes y bares.
Cabo de Palos es parte de un área protegida, así que si lo tuyo es el mundo submarino, ¡este es el lugar para estar! Aquí puede participar en paseos en barco y excursiones de buceo, que se ofrecen ampliamente aquí.
Se pueden realizar hermosos paseos a lo largo de las rocas donde descender a las playas escondidas es a veces un desafío. Un hermoso paseo y una hermosa vista!
¡Cabo de Palos es una joya gastronómica! Aquí puede encontrar muchos restaurantes y bares para disfrutar de una buena comida, para todos los gustos. Mi favorito es Bocano de Palos, reserva con anticipación.
El mercado semanal en Cabo, los domingos, es un mercado muy grande que es visitado masivamente por españoles, residentes de segunda residencia y turistas. En Cabo de Palos también encontrarás todas las tiendas como un SPAR 'grande', Asia Shop 'la china', una tienda de bricolaje y un Aldi.

Hacia el sur, a unos 20 km de la casa, se encuentra la popular ciudad de Cartagena. Aquí también encontrarás la hermosa “Cala Cortina”. Esta Cala Cortina también es conocida como una de las mejores regiones para hacer snorkel.
La histórica ciudad portuaria románica de Cartagena tiene el puerto natural más grande de España. Se conservan el anfiteatro, la muralla y la catedral de la época romana. Los cartagineses están muy orgullosos de su hermosa ciudad y les gusta celebrar allí a menudo.
Como en las dos últimas semanas de septiembre, cuando la ciudad se transforma en la antigua ciudad romana de Cartago y miles de cartagineses con hermosos atuendos romanos desfilan por la ciudad todas las noches. Cartagena tiene una historia muy larga, lo que demuestra las profundas raíces de las influencias romanas y cartaginesas en la zona.
El anfiteatro romano solo se descubrió en el año 1980. Justo antes de Cartagena se encuentra el gran centro comercial: Espacio Meditteraneo (Parque Mediterráneo - ver más en compras).

La ciudad de Murcia, también la capital de la provincia de Murcia, a menudo se describe como una de las ciudades históricas más hermosas de España y se la llama el 'Madrid del sur'. Aquí tienes una amplia oferta de edificios históricos e impresionantes murallas, iglesias que en su origen fueron mezquitas y la Catedral (el edificio más preciado de la ciudad).

Incluso más al sur de Cartagena se encuentra Puerto de Mazarrón. Aquí de nuevo fantásticas playas y diversión. La economía local gira principalmente en torno a la pesca. ¡El momento en que se trae la pesca del día es definitivamente una visita obligada! ¡Aquí también hay muchos edificios históricos e iglesias que merecen una visita!

Si vas en coche desde Mazarrón hasta Águilas, verás una costa preciosa, pero sobre todo pintoresca. Los lugares de interés aquí son "La Plaza España" con sus fantásticos jardines, la iglesia de San José, el ornamentado ayuntamiento, el antiguo puerto y el castillo.

El pueblo costero de Los Alcázares ofrece todo lo que puedas desear. Pasea por el kilométrico paseo marítimo, a lo largo del Mar Menor, come algo en uno de los muchos bares o restaurantes o en un típico chiringuito (chiringuito).

En San Javier había un aeropuerto civil. También alberga la academia militar del Ejército del Aire, que en el pasado sirvió para proteger el puerto de Cartagena. La academia también alberga a la Patrulla Águila, el equipo nacional de espectáculos acrobáticos del Ejército del Aire español, a menudo visto sobre el Mar Menor.

Parte del nombre (El Pinatar) proviene de un gran pinar donde antiguamente se practicaba la caza. Posteriormente, en el siglo XVII, se le añadió la otra parte del nombre (San Pedro) después de que los pescadores construyeran una ermita donde rendían homenaje al Apóstol Pedro.
Este era un típico pueblo de pescadores y conocido por su producción de sal.
La playa Barraca Quemada y la playa de la Llana merecen una visita aquí. Hoy el municipio es más conocido por la gran reserva natural Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro. Aquí encontrará lagos salados, un área para caminar con oportunidades para observar muchas especies de aves, incluidos los flamencos, y los famosos baños de lodo medicinal (* ver más Baños de lodo). Aquí también encontrará kilómetros de playas bien mantenidas.
El mercado semanal de los lunes es un mercado muy grande con numerosos puestos. En San Pedro del Pinatar se encuentra el Pinatar Arena donde se realizan regularmente los partidos de práctica de los equipos de fútbol extranjeros. Un amplio y hermoso paseo bordea el mar interior. Continúa por toda la playa hacia San Javier. Puede llegar fácilmente a la próxima playa o pueblo a pie o en bicicleta. Cerca de Lo Pagán se encuentra otro popular destino vacacional, Santiago de Ribera o un poco más lejos Orihuela Costa (provincia de Alicante).

Los famosos baños de lodo se encuentran en la playa de Lo Pagán. Aquí se puede ver como la gente se frota con barro, un barro que tiene un efecto muy medicinal. La alta salinidad del lago contiene mucho yodo. Por lo tanto, a las personas con dolencias reumáticas y artritis les gusta visitar estos baños de lodo. Las fracturas se curan más rápido, las afecciones de la piel se reducen...
¿Cómo disfrutar / beneficiarse de esto usted mismo? Untarse con barro, primero en los lugares posiblemente más sensibles, luego completamente. Deje que este barro se seque al sol hasta formar una costra dura. Para sacarle el máximo partido, debes dejar secar el barro durante al menos una hora. Luego te enjuagarás en el agua salada.
¿Dónde encuentras estos increíbles baños de lodo?
Un paseo peatonal parte del Molino Quintin, en la Avenida del Puerto. Hay embarcaderos de madera que te dan acceso al agua y al barro. ¡Estos baños de lodo son completamente gratuitos y vale la pena visitarlos! ¡Disfrútala!
Algunos consejos;
- Trae una olla o algo para recoger el barro.
- No use su mejor traje de baño/bañador. A menudo se requieren varios lavados para que quede limpio.
- Los zapatos para el agua pueden ser útiles.
- Use una toalla en el automóvil para proteger sus asientos, también puede persistir un olor acre.

Ten en cuenta que muchas playas de España son reservas naturales protegidas. Así que siempre respeta las señales que ves. Llévate tus residuos contigo y deposítalos en uno de los basureros. ¡No dejes nada! No siempre se puede llegar a estos lugares en coche, muchas veces se puede ver dónde está aparcado el coche y desde allí se sigue a pie.
LA PLAYA BARRACA QUEMADA (SAN PEDRO DEL PINATAR)
También conocida como Playa de La Llana, es uno de los lugares más recomendados de la Costa Cálida, ya que cuenta con muchas zonas de sombra gracias a la gran cantidad de palmeras que hay en la playa. Tiene unos 700 metros de largo y una gran variedad de chiringuitos.
PORTMAN BAY A pocos minutos de la casa se encuentra uno de los campos de golf más bonitos y grandes de Europa, LA MANGA GOLF RESORT, así como un muy agradable centro de Spa y Bienestar con piscina, sauna, jacuzzi, baños de vapor y un gimnasio con fantásticas vistas panorámicas al mar. vistas y algunos restaurantes maravillosos (más caros).
Conduzca recto a través del resort y visite PORTMAN BAY, quizás una de las playas escondidas más hermosas de la zona, con arena negra, ubicada en el mar Mediterráneo. En verano es agradable quedarse allí y también puedes tomar algo en los chiringuitos de la playa. En invierno, un bar está abierto los fines de semana.
Los romanos fundaron este pequeño pueblo en el siglo I, con el nombre de Portus Magnus, que significa: Gran Puerta. La ciudad se desarrolló significativamente como parte de la zona minera de La Unión, principalmente por su bahía y puerto protegidos naturalmente, lo que la convirtió en un lugar estratégico dentro del Imperio Romano. En el Museo Arqueológico se pueden contemplar importantes restos de la época minera, así como un antiguo pavimento de mosaico romano recuperado de la villa romana de Paturro y considerado el más grande de estas características en la Región de Murcia.
PLAYA DE CALBLANQUE (CARTAGENA)
Como se explicó anteriormente, encontrará hermosa fauna y flora, montañas vírgenes, playas de arena y vistas panorámicas. Horas de caminata y avistamiento de aves o delfines.
PLAYA DE PONIENTE (ÁGUILAS)
Águilas tiene muchos lugares hermosos para nadar, pero uno de los mejores es sin duda la Playa de Poniente, galardonada con la bandera azul. Situado en el centro de la ciudad, es ideal para pasar un día perfecto en la playa: aseos, chiringuitos y restaurantes, parque infantil, ....
PLAYA HONDA
Situada entre Mar de Cristal y Cabo de Palos; Por un lado, limita con una reserva natural protegida con lagos salados y muchas especies de aves. Los amantes de la naturaleza pueden disfrutar aquí. Al otro lado hay un gran camping al que acude mucha gente a pasar el invierno. El restaurante Malvasia, catalogado en la guía Michelin, es muy recomendable.

El ciclismo es posible a lo largo de toda la costa del Mar Menor. La región está llena de carriles para bicicletas, pero los ciclistas también pueden quedarse en las carreteras principales y aún así disfrutar de la vista de la hermosa costa. Se pueden alquilar bicicletas, scooters y quads en lugares de la zona del Mar Menor.
